    Arbalou Bilberry for Horses is specifically formulated to help prevent age-related eye conditions in horses. Its antioxidant and protective effects on the lens and retina make it a valuable supplement for aging horses. Note that bilberry leaves do not have the same ocular benefits as bilberry berries; leaves primarily influence blood sugar levels in horses.

    The administration of plants rich in anthocyanosides, thanks to their antioxidant action, helps slow the progression of age-related eye disorders such as senile cataracts. Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) is a shrub from the Ericaceae family, native to Europe and North America. The fruits contain polysaccharides, tannins, flavonoids, vitamins A and C, and minerals. However, their main bioactive components are anthocyanosides, which reduce capillary permeability, increase defenses against oxidative stress, and protect the lens and retina from damage.

    Thanks to these properties, the fruits are used to treat ocular disorders, including retinopathies, night vision problems, capillary fragility, and age-related lesions such as macular degeneration and senile cataracts (Goetz, 2008; Wynn and Fougère, 2007). Indeed, the administration of anthocyanoside-rich plants has been shown to slow the progression of age-related eye diseases such as senile cataracts. A study by Fursova et al. (2005) demonstrated the beneficial effects of bilberry extract supplementation in rats with senile cataracts and macular degeneration. After three months of treatment, bilberry extracts helped prevent damage to the lens and retina.

    In horses, bilberry is used in the treatment of recurrent chronic uveitis, progressive retinal atrophy, nuclear sclerosis, and in the prevention of cataracts in geriatric horses (Harman, 2007).     Ces dosages sont des moyennes. Il est donc facile de les adapter en fonction du poids de votre animal.

    Comment ajuster le dosage de chaque complément alimentaire pour chevaux ?

    Si votre cheval ou votre poney ne correspond pas exactement à ces poids de référence, adaptez le dosage proportionnellement. Exemple avec Arbalou Phytoflex :

    • Cheval de 600 kg → 1 dose pleine
    • Poney D de 400 kg → ½ dose
