How to Properly Use a Horse Shampoo ?

To ensure the shampoo is effective while protecting your horse’s skin and coat, follow these simple steps:

1. Wet the coat, mane, and tail thoroughly using a bucket of lukewarm water or a hose, avoiding sensitive areas such as the eyes and ears.

2. Apply the shampoo (liquid or solid) to a sponge or directly on wet hair, then gently massage to create a lather. For solid shampoos, use the provided mesh bag and massage directly with the shampoo inside.

3. Focus on the most exposed areas: legs, croup, and mane.

4. Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear to remove all residue, preventing dryness or irritation.

5. Finish with careful drying using a heat scraper or a towel.

The frequency of washes depends on several factors: the horse’s activity (stall, pasture, sport), the season (shedding period, hot summer months), and coat type. Generally, a full shampoo session can be done every two to three weeks, or more often if necessary, as long as a gentle, chemical-free shampoo suitable for sensitive skin is used.

During summer, shampoos can be applied more frequently to remove sweat, dust, and insects. In winter, washing can be less frequent, combined with quick drying to avoid chills.
