Shampoo & Detangler
Why Use a Shampoo Specifically for Horses?
A horse’s skin is particularly delicate. Unlike human skin, it has a different pH and is more sensitive to harsh ingredients. Using products formulated for other species can cause irritation, dry out the skin, or reduce the natural shine of your horse’s coat.
This is why it is essential to use a shampoo specifically designed to respect the horse’s skin balance. The horse shampoos available from Arbalou Care are made with natural ingredients and enriched with soothing and protective agents. Formulated without harsh chemicals, they gently care for your horse’s coat and skin while preserving natural shine and maintaining the health of sensitive hides.

For a Shiny Coat and an Easily Detangled Mane
In addition to cleansing, our shampoos enhance the aesthetic appeal of your horse. They make grooming easier, prevent mane and tail from tangling or breaking, and leave the hair soft without weighing it down. These natural, strengthening formulations work deeply on the hair fibers, delivering visible results from the first wash.
Whether preparing for a competition, a ride, or regular maintenance, there is a shampoo suited to every coat type. Some are formulated for grey or white horses (violet anti-stain shampoo), others for dark coats (color-enhancing formulas), or for horses sensitive to environmental stressors such as itching, dermatitis, or irritations.
Our three solid shampoos are also tailored to specific horse needs: a cleansing/healing solid shampoo, one for regular shine maintenance, and another for irritation-prone skin.
By choosing a shampoo formulated for horses, you provide a customized care routine that enhances coat beauty while preserving skin health.
How to Properly Use a Horse Shampoo ?
To ensure the shampoo is effective while protecting your horse’s skin and coat, follow these simple steps:
-
Wet the coat, mane, and tail thoroughly using a bucket of lukewarm water or a hose, avoiding sensitive areas such as the eyes and ears.
-
Apply the shampoo (liquid or solid) to a sponge or directly on wet hair, then gently massage to create a lather. For solid shampoos, use the provided mesh bag and massage directly with the shampoo inside.
-
Focus on the most exposed areas: legs, croup, and mane.
-
Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear to remove all residue, preventing dryness or irritation.
-
Finish with careful drying using a heat scraper or a towel.
The frequency of washes depends on several factors: the horse’s activity (stall, pasture, sport), the season (shedding period, hot summer months), and coat type. Generally, a full shampoo session can be done every two to three weeks, or more often if necessary, as long as a gentle, chemical-free shampoo suitable for sensitive skin is used.
During summer, shampoos can be applied more frequently to remove sweat, dust, and insects. In winter, washing can be less frequent, combined with quick drying to avoid chills.
For long-lasting coat health and beauty, it’s ideal to combine shampooing with a detangler or nourishing treatment to ease brushing, prevent knots, and maintain the suppleness of the mane and tail, such as Arbalou Detangling & Shine Spray.
There is always an Arbalou Care shampoo suited to your horse.
